Do you know that Wikipedia - the open online encyclopedia - can be edited by anyone? Do you want to try writing one of its entries, or even correct a wrong date of birth, insert additional information or add a new authoritative source, book or scientific article on a subject?
Take part in the Edit-a-thon, the "contribution marathon" on Wikipedia that will show the students and researchers of the University of Turin how to contribute to the most consulted free encyclopedia in the world!
We will write entries about female scientists.
The edit-a-thon will take place on Friday 4th November, from 9.30 to 17.00, in the “Laboratorio LL1” classroom, Campus Einaudi, Lungo Dora Siena 100, Turin.
The meeting will be led by Camelia Boban, developer and active contributor of the Wikimedia community since 2007. She will also offer us a methodologic introduction on how to write in Wikipedia and on open licenses.
Each participant must create and activate their own Wikipedia account before the meeting on November 4th and will have to operate on a PC (20 Desktop computers are available in LL1 classroom, participants will be advised in case they have to bring their laptops). Further instructions will be sent to those who register by filling out this form by November 2nd.
If they like, all participants can also read the Guides written by Camelia Boban in advance.
This event is organized in collaboration with CEOS_SE – a European project aimed at raise awareness of Open Science and Citizen Science – and WikiDonne - APS.
